Planting and bug hotel

 Planting rainbow chard.
This one we decided to plant into pots it doesn't need a large container or supports so decided pots would work. Plus it looks nice with all the colours so thought it could be decorative on either side of the patio in the garden.

Planting step one was to make a circle channel around the pot with your finger. My daughter enjoyed this as she loves drawing circles so happily did this. Then sprinkle the seeds into this channel and make sure they are evenly spread out. Once the seeds are in cover with a thin layer of soil and water gently. Too much water will disturb the soil and maybe wash away your seeds I tend to do the first watering in this situation as they often flood one spot when the children water.

We decided that we would make a bug hotel. We got this terracotta pipe from my parents garden, but you could use anything from pots to old toys anything that you can put sticks in. We started to fill with old bamboo sticks some were hole and some had split in half. These are very good as they have holes through the centre and give the bugs somewhere to hide.

We also used some twigs that we found from around the garden too. Once it was filled we decided to put it at the edge of our wild garden. My son was explaining it to his sister about how bugs like to hide and told her about lifting rocks and bugs being underneath hiding. Then said we needed some rocks too. we didn't have any rocks but we did have a brick which I said would work so we placed both of these under the bush at the end of our wild area.

This is the bug hotel and the brick hopefully they will bring more bugs to the wild area. we will have to wait and see what grows.

We also hung our bug hotel for flying bugs of the fence. So hopefully everyone is happy in the garden.
good gardening everyone!
